I was walking home from work today thinking about where my children should go to school, and thinking that I need to move into a more diverse (economically, racially, religiously, etc.) neighborhood so that they are able to see broader spectrum of the world.
Then I realized, wait, they don’t exist yet.

Patients complicate.
Doctors figure. Nurses fix. Therapists heal. Techs labor. Residents learn. Surgeons save. Pharmacists treat. Staff run. Chaplains pray. Dietitians feed. Students observe.
Designers were called in to connect.

Small Touches of Humanity
I’ve been shadowing people in the ICU for a few days now, jotting down notes and generally staying as invisible as possible so I can see people as they are. Most go about their normal day caring for patients. I was scheduled to follow the residents around, and for those who don’t know, as I didn’t, when you go into the ICU at Mayo your main doc is called a consultant....

I got drunk dialed by a guy I used to date at 1:30am. He calls every 6 months or so when he’s completely wasted. His message this time was “hey natalie, I was just reading your mhmpfile (I think he meant to say ‘profile’) and wanted to tell you PPPPPPPPHHHHHHHHHBBBBBBTTTTT!” (The sound of someone blowing raspberries.)
Glad I didn’t pick up.

I’m looking for great amazing super far out anythings. What’s happening in technology, health, music, art, design, education, business… ANYTHING!
What are you seeing happening that’s getting you all excited about the future?
Do doctors want you healthy? Do business men want you sick? What about doctors who become businessmen?

How do I teach surgeons the steps for product development, when I’m really just learning them too?
How do I run workshops teaching basic design skills when I’ve just recently grasped them myself?
How do I get analytical thinkers, who are...
Holy Bureaucracy!
So I need an illustrator file to pull artwork off of for a project to get people excited. It’s not official, it won’t leave the floor, and it’s just so people will think it’s fun and put a smile on their faces. I could just make up the artwork myself but I wanted the colors and the fonts so it’ll match what we’ve already got.
